I was listened to Destructoid’s Podcastle #2 podcast today, when Jim Sterling randomly started discussing an old Donald Duck cartoon that featured some interesting anti-Nazi propaganda. While I’m not a very big fan of history in general, I do love World War 2 history. I immediately hit Google to find it. Not only did I find that particular cartoon, I found a whole slew of cartoons that I never imagined would have existed. I recommend viewing these cartoons with caution; They CAN potentially offend someone.
Watch these cartoons, and compare it to modern day propaganda, such as when Family Guy makes cracks at Osama Bin Laden. It’s really somewhat interesting to think about. Be sure to leave thoughts and hate mail in the comments!
In this cartoon, Donald Duck is a citizen of Nazi Germany.
This is a Warner Bros. cartoon that simply pokes fun at Nazis and Japan.
This one is particularly disturbing considering that it’s a Disney cartoon. This is a story that attempts to explain how children are made into Nazis.
This cartoon tells the story as if Hitler was a farm duck.
This cartoon features the Three Little Pigs and Adolf Wolf.
Here’s a black and white Popeye cartoon with an anti-Japanese message.
Here’s another Popeye cartoon with an anti-Nazi message. This cartoon cannot possibly be banned though. The Cartoon Network watermark in the lower right hand corner is a clue.
Another Looney Tunes cartoon with an anti-Nazi message. I actually remember seeing this on TV when I was younger.
